About DAABA

The Dallas Asian American Bar Association (DAABA) is one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic legal associations in Texas.  Founded by just 15 attorneys in 1988, DAABA today boasts more than 200 members, including private practice attorneys, in-house corporate counsel, government attorneys, judges, officials, law professors, and law students.  DAABA advocates for the interests of local Asian American attorneys and the greater Asian community.  The association encourages and promotes the professional growth and good community standing of its members.  DAABA fosters fellowship both within its membership and among other members of the legal profession, including cooperation with other organizations of minority attorneys.  DAABA is one of three minority organization affiliated with the Dallas Bar Association (DBA).  The association also works closely with the Asian Pacific Interest Section (APIS) of the State Bar of Texas, and is the local chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA).

As DAABA’s membership has grown over the years, so has the prominence and influence of its members.  DAABA members are regularly recognized as outstanding attorneys and public servants by local, state, and national organizations.  Our members are regularly requested to speak and to give presentations to other organizations and to serve on various legal organization, government and nonprofit boards and commissions.  For example, DAABA has one or more seats on the DBA Board of Directors, Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) Board of Directors, and the Dallas Diversity Task Force.

Members have many opportunities to get involved and serve in DAABA.  Members may serve on one or more of the following active standing committees:  Awards Event, Communications, Corporate Counsel, Corporate Governance, Foundation, Program, Public Relations, Service, and Social.  DAABA members can also volunteer for other committees formed throughout the year to further the association’s goals.  Throughout the year, DAABA provides activities for its members to network, participate in community service, and socialize.  Several touchstone networking events include our Annual Asian New Year’s Party, the Dragon Boat Race, and Games Night.  DAABA’s biggest event of the year is the Annual Awards Eventheld in October of each year.  The event is the primary fundraiser for DAABA and helps provide scholarships for Asian American attorneys and students and contributes to the other community service efforts supported by DAABA.
